Jun 2-3 - Latta Plantation - The Prelude To GettysburgEvent Type: Civil War Reenactment Time: Arrival anytime Fri evening - Event ends Sun after battle Location: Historic Latta Plantation Address: 5225 Sample Road, Huntersville, NC 28078 Map/Directions:https://goo.gl/maps/z83WEmBAc3q Website:https://www.lattaplantation.org/new-events/2017/6/3/civil-war-reenactment Contact: Gerald Goins - Email: ggoins@6thregimentsc.org Details... We've received invitation from the 13th NCT, the event host of "The Prelude to Gettysburg", to come and help support them in this event. The 13th along with many other NCT units have supported numerous of our SC Unit and Battalion events over the years. This will be a great opportunity for us to come together and return the favor. Preregistration before May 23 is $5.00. Afterwards it becomes $10.00. This fee is to help offset the cost of a reenactor meal and other amenities such as firewood and bedding hay. Let me know if you can attend. Any other unit/s or individual/s interested in taking part are more than welcome to come and join us in the effort. This event is easy for many of us in the upstate to get to and to return home from. If your schedule allows, consider placing it on your calendar to attend. Thanks, Gerald

Event details and informative links about it follow below. Let me know if you can come take part. Event: Lowry Ag+Art Tour (Living History and Recruitment Op) Time: Setup 8:00 am. We will be firing muskets from time to time so be sure to bring rounds and caps also. I'll have an A-Frame and two dog tents to set up along with the large canvas fly to put the recruitment table under and to provide shelter and from the sun. It's not absolutely necessary but you can bring a tent of your own if you like as long as it's not a wall tent. If you have cartridge rolling equipment bring it. This will be a good opportunity to get a jump on rolling rounds for Gettysburg and to teach those who don't yet know how to do so. I'll bring a box of precut rolling paper for anyone who needs it. The original Confederate 10lb Parrott Cannon will be onsite and in need of a 5-8 man crew to fire it. We'll do this every hour on the hour if allowed. Let me know if you're interested in filling one of the remaining open positions. In an attempt to receive better exposure, if allowed, our presentation will take place out front between the store building and main road instead of in back as in previous years. Food Vendors will be on site throughout the day providing food and refreshment at a nominal cost. A cooler of cold bottled water will be on hand for those who need it along with a good cold watermelon or two for refreshment. Jul 28 (Sat) - C Company CookoutMembers of C Company, Our Co Cookout has been set for Sat, July 28. All members and their families are all invited and encouraged to come take part. The Howle Family, good friends of Russell Young, have graciously agreed to let us use their farm property again in Patrick, SC for this cookout. The cookout will begin at 3:00 pm with Russell providing the main course of grilled franks and hamburgers. Buns for both will be needed along with mustard, ketchup, chili, slaw, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and dill pickles. Everyone is asked to bring a favorite side dish. I'm planning bringing a pan of home cooked baked beans covered with french fried onions. I'm just hoping they're able to survive the trip over intact. Other things that will be needed are ice, soft drinks, cups, utensils, paper plates, and napkins. Please let us know what food item you'll be bringing so we don't have an over abundance of one particular thing. If you have outdoor games such as horseshoes, frisbee, corn hole toss, or anything of like nature please bring them. As is always, it's important we do have a headcount for this event. Please make it known sometime soon as to whether you plan to attend or not. NOTE: There are few physical addresses in this area recognized by GPS devices including the address of this event. One close by exception though is that of 111 Bethlehem Rd, Patrick, SC 29584. This address is easily recognized by GPS and can be used to bring you within the immediate vicinity of our cookout location. Once you've reached 111 Bethlehem Rd don't stop but continue driving southeast on Bethlehem Rd for a short distance of about 1/8 of a mile until you see the Christian Flag posted on your right. Turn into the gate entrance here and follow the dirt road ahead continuing left around the pond until you arrive at the cookout location. For a better understanding of how to get there, download an arial view of the location by using the following link… https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/a7f814_308b821e114545b8aa7234aa85ec6699.pdf Again, make it known if your schedule will allow for your attendance. Hope to see you all there, Capt GGoins

Because other member units of C Co held an invitation to attend this event also… it is being copied and reposted here as an alert to all. - Capt GGoins Members of the Sixth: Just wanted to update everyone on what was to be our unit's Aug 25 Summerfest Promo/Recruitment event in York. Not wishing to go into any of the details at this time, the Summerfest event itself HAS NOT been canceled but the Sixth's and the Gen Micah Jenkins SCV Camp's participation HAS BEEN CANCELED. And just to be clear the decision to do so was made by us, Unit President Goins and SCV Commander Sutton and not by the event host them self. We'll talk more about this at our next unit meeting on Tue, Aug 28. I appreciate all who said they had plans to participate and their willingness to support what was to be one of our most important P/R events of the year. You can now free up your calendars for this date. Thanks, GGoins 6th SC Volunteers

Let's plan meeting at 10:30 am in front of the Community Center to help dress out the Brig Gen Micah Jenkins SCV float we'll be riding on. Shortly afterwards around 11:30 we'll have a very informal lunch meeting with no set agenda inside the Community Center. Hotdogs, hamburgers, drinks and chips will be available at a nominal fee. The parade steps off at 1:00 pm and will last no more than one hour. Military dress: Full uniform, accoutrements and musket. Do not bring cartridges. We will not be firing muskets or cannon due to the many horses and farm animals that'll be taking part in the parade along side us. Civilian Dress: Ladies and gentlemen are welcome to participate by wearing their finest period appropriate dress and frock attire. If you have them, bring any old and worn Christmas ornaments you might be thinking of tossing out so that they can be used to dress out the float. And don't forget to bring plenty of individually wrapped candy to toss out to the kids. Looking forward to seeing you there. Gerald
